Creative Economy (Part III)

UNESCO created in 2004 Creative Cities Network to promote the cooperation within the cities that settle creativity as strategic sustainable urban development and to strengthen cultural and creative industries in the development local plan. (UNESCO, 2022).

 

The commitment of each city is to share the best practices, with the association of public-private sector and civil society to reinforce the creation, production, distribution of good as services related to culture and creativity, the development of poles of creativity and innovation and to improve the access to cultural environment. The 7 creative fields are: crafts and popular arts, digital arts, cinema, design, literature, gastronomy and music.  (UNESCO, Creative Cities, Ennonce Mission Reseau des Villes Creatives, 2004).

 

Some examples of cities or this network are: Quebec in literature, Tel Aviv-Yafo in digital arts, Dubai in design, San Antonio in gastronomy, Nassau in crafts and popular arts and Rome in Cinema. (UNESCO, 2022)

 

In México: Guadalajara in creative digital citi; CDMX in design; San Cristobal de las Casas in crafts and popular arts; Puebla in design and Morelia in Music. All these cities have the commitment to boost projects between government-society-civil organizations in the long run for the production, distribution and consumption of their products and services in Mexico and worldwide.
